Sweet Jayne played 700 gigs from 1977 to 1983.......in Melbourne and around country Victoria to South Australia plus Sydney tours.... until Chris Scheri flute and vocals and Cris Bonacci guitar were picked up by Mike Oldfield (at a Manzil Room gig ) and flown to the UK. at his expense.1983. Sweet Jayne began as an all girl band... notably Australia's first all girl heavy rock band, playing originals as well as covers. They got their start with Premier Artists when they won the Australasian Yamaha Battle of the bands against hundreds of male bands in 1978. Two of the girls were only 16.
