Nightride
4 Members 1 Gig
Nightride were a Sydney based Rock Cover band from late 1974 - early 1976 consisting primarily of high school students from Marist Brothers Kogarah. Greg Morris had answered an ad looking for a drummer to complete the line up and he was recruited at the audition late 1974. This was the first band any of them had been in so it was all fresh and new and they were all starting their musical careers together. Doing covers of bands such as The Rolling Stones, Status Quo and Bad Company to name just a few.
The band went through 3 name changes before settling on Nightride (named after a Status Quo song called funnily enough, Night Ride). The first being Valhalla & Company, this line up played their first and only gig early 1975 at Rockdale Town Hall supporting Finch which feature Bob Spencer who would go on to Skyhooks and then The Angels. Unfortunately the singer wasn't working out and he was let go after this first gig.
Another high school friend Don Turner, was asked if he'd like to give singing in a band a try and although he hadn't thought about being a singer he gave it a go and he was a natural at it. With the line up now settled there was a name change to Roc Nest and they played a school dance supporting Matrix Friday 22nd August 1975. Soon after the name Nightride was adopted and by now they were playing venues such as Heathcote Inn.
